As Stan mentioned, it was the natives that made it possible for them to
survive that first winter with the food that they gave to them and the
hunting skill that they taught the Europeans.  Then the next spring,
they were shown how to grow corn and to use fish as fertilizer in that
poor New England soil.  The Indians were honored guests at that first
Thanksgiving meal.
