well things have gone from bad to worse... to the point that as a newsreader mozilla is totally unusable..... So I tried a fresh start..... Blew away all the news groups from the edit profiles.... Deleted the news directory structure..... Created new profiles Set everything up.... now the unread msg count is great for picking Lottary numbers, as it is one of the finest random number generators I have experienced... the numbers certainly are unrelated to the unread posts..... BTW, I have no access to wincrap or linux, so I am unable to verify if this occures in other platforms... actually I couldn't care less... I only use OS2, and am only interested in fixing it's problems..... This whole excercise took about 2hrs, as I can't use block select to mark newsgroups read, but have to bugger around one group at a time........
