Thx so much for your encouragement!!  In my haste to set up the
environment i unzipped an NT version instead of the OS/2 version of
M4.EXE (gotta watch those subdir names).  Interestingly the NT version
produces no bads except no output.

| two screenfuls of options. Take the autoconf message as simply meaning
| "Can't run M4..." "chkdll32 m4.exe" here shows that it uses
gnuregex.dll
| in addition to the emx runtime. Perhaps that's what's missing?
