Yep, that's what the ibm's driver does. Having this changed is not something us non-fortune500 users can do :), but there are "alternative" mouse drivers (amouse, xmouse, ...), and those can be changed. XMouse defines ioctls that allows for the extra mouse events (wheels, plus extra buttons) to be redefined, and I guess the same can be done with amouse. If a known "protocol" was defined for warpzilla, alternative drivers (at least) could take this into account, hence my query.
