I believe you've misread what I posted.

I was not complaining about the "total number of bytes to be
transferred" -- it makes sense to me that if the server does
not tell you this value, then you can't show it.

What I __was__ complaining about was the total lack of
information on the 'Status:' line in the 'Saving' window
(in my 202040908, that line was blank after the 'Status:')
What I expected was for Mozilla to *count* how many bytes
it had received from the server, and to show THAT value.
(IBM Web Browser 1.2 *does* show, in its 'Saving file'
 window, the number of bytes it has received so far.)
