In which case I have a request / suggestion to make:

Could an entry be added to the RMB menu which prepares for a
download but *always* opens the dialog for "To what destination
do you want the transferred data to be passed ?"  (Irrespective
of whether prefs.js says to ask or not ask.)

I could then look at that dialog window to see the Mime-Type,
but click on 'Cancel' so as to abort the actual download.
