Cut and paste for me has never been chord (or middle button) but
rather the timed operation of a tap of one while holding other
depressed[1]. This action for paste has always given me grief from
Mozilla (thru 1.0).
I suppose that in an object oriented environment chord or middle
button would
- open new tab if mouse on a link
- close tab if mouse on a tab tab
- paste clipboard if mouse on an entry field.
If not an object oriented environment, then perhaps all three actions
could always be entered since only one can possibly be relevant for
any position of mouse.
Or maybe it doesn't work that way at all ;-}

cut: swipe with lmb and keep the button depressed; tap rbm to copy to
clipboard;
paste: postition cursor to insert, or swipe/highight area to be
replaced; depress and hold rbm while then tap lmb.
It works everywhere but Mozilla, where other undesirable events occur.
