Yes.

If a bug exists in 4.x, it is well-known and will have to be worked 
around for quite some time anyway. If we introduce a bug that didn't 
exist in 4.x, that's an additional one to work around and cause problems.

I'm not saying to we should ship with any such bugs.

I hope that the last word hasn't been spoken on this matter. We have a 
working patch. It needs improvement, but that can be done in reasonable 
time, and it can be checked in without much risk of regressions.
