I just wrote this kind of extension, using nsIServerSocket. Working with sockets is described at XulPlanet: http://xulplanet.com/tutorials/mozsdk/sockets.html The extension itself is attached to http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11028 .
