I know of one way users can reset the associations to the system default
(meaning to IE). It's not too straight forward, but here are the steps:

1) under IE, select View|Internet options. Or in the Control Panels,
run Internet Options
2) tab over the Programs tab
3) click on the botton checkbox "Internet Explorer should check to see
whether it is the default browser"
4) Quit IE altogether (if it's running).
5) launch IE and click on the "Yes" button.

If anyone else knows of a eaiser and possibly better way, please let me
know too.
