andreas had a thought that you could auto-detect byte-order in a
given input file. Any suggestions on how to implement this in a 100%
effective and easy way? (Otherwise people will just have to recognize
where they need to use the new -x switch)
check to see if the timing code works ok for you. it's ifdef'd by
TIMER at the moment, but it'll be put in proper when i get some feedback.
stdin reading may be my next challenge. This may involve a bit of
a cleanup on the file-reading routines. they're getting a bit messy.
