by "math routines" i mean "maths library routines". ie sin, cos, pow, sqrt, log
etc.

All the maths lib stuff in my linux install is INLINEd automagically, and
doesn't show up on a profile.
I know freebsd explicitly has libs in the distro which enable you to do
profiling on them.
