Takehiro Tominaga made a new development snapshot of his lame branch
available at

  http://www.isoternet.org/~tominaga/lame-0927.tar.bz2

It is derived from an older version of lame (3.13 ?).
Aspects of his work are

1 speed up
2 better sound quality
3 cleaning source code

Takehiro wrote me that he will be joining the mailing list and wants to
synchronize with the lame development.

BTW: I tried it and on my box the speed improvement was about 35%
with -b 160 -m s and "optimized" CC_OPTS (for gcc-2.7.3) settings. Of
course it is difficult to compare different versions of lame. I do not know
whether e.g. lame-3.30 with same parameters can be compared with lame-3.13.
