I will also note for those that may end up confused by this...

There are two places to set preemphasis, in the TOC and in the subQ and they're
allegedly supposed to agree.  Some CDs (like many early audiophile CDs
manufactured by Denon) only set the preemphasis bits in subQ.  Denon CD players
are also the only ones I'm aware of that actually look for preemphasis in subQ
(the vast majority only check the TOC).  I'm sure there must be some others
that check the subchannel, I just don't know of them.
