Hi

Here are some things I'm just thinking about and wich are unused in LAME. It
does not means that they'd better been used, just that they could be used
but are unused.

*intensity stereo: it would help low bitrate stereo encoding. Xing and FhG
use this.

*Subblock gain: FhG uses it

*scfi: FhG does not use it, but Xing does

*mixed blocks: FhG does not use it, but it has been used since a long time
in ATRAC (Minidiscs)

*Temporal masking: A frame sound could provide masking over the next frame
(or granules). I don't know if any encoder use it, however some experiments
shown an decrease of about 15% of the bitrate using this.

*Inter-channel masking: Is this used by any mp3 encoder?


What do you think about it?
