Hi there
thanks to all who helped me out on my previous query. I had tried the
Russian site a few weeks ago but it had been down for a long time,
and didn't bother to check until Mat pointed it out : >
I've been comparing the performance of Lame with the reference mp3enc
and l3enc among others, and what I seem to observe most is the
absence of artfiacts at lower bitrates, where the latter two provide
outstandingly good results. Since 3.54, Lame has partially addressed
the issue by introducing downsampling, and the linear filter is kinds
ok too, but I believe this is where we must focus our efforts on
right now. There is vast room for improvement and smaller files with
good quality are always desirable.
For starters, try the Audiocatalyst encoder at 96K and observe the
virtual absence of artifacts.
More later
Cheers
