The Ogg project's older 'Squish' codec also beats LPAC and Shorten, and there's
source for it.  The software is currently unmaintained and bitrotting, although
I plan to resurrect and update Squish (both to improve it and change it to use
the Ogg bitstream format) once Vorbis is out the door.
