Hi,
I have been away for a while and I'm kind of overwhelmed by this
discussion. I find it difficult to follow. Below I'm expressing some
opinions of mine; please excuse me if I'm repeating questions that already
has been answered.
Question #1: By default, all MP3 encoder adds some silence at the
beginning. This is sometimes not noticeable due to decoder delays. So,
adding that silence doesn't necessarily have to make it sound bad.
But, is there any standard how much delay a should decoder should have? It
should not have any - but some things are inevitable I guess. So, if and
LAME adds "xx ms" silence at the start and if a decoder is developed with
"xx ms" of delay; while playing a live album, there should not virtually be
any delay and songs should sound "continuos".
My question is: is it possible to do so?
Question #2: Next, LAME encoder knows it adds "xx ms" of silence at the
beginning. Can't any option be made that it can cut off the "xx ms" added
first? Like, LAME - or any other utility developed specially for this -
would cut off the silence from the beginning and the end that has been
added, without decompressing->compressing again.
If it is hard to determine what extra information has been put there, can't
some kind of marker be introduced to mark the silence which has been added
- without having any conflict with the decoder?
This feature would come handy to the people who wish to decode MP3s of live
albums and want to write it to a CD.
The first feature will be helpful for all the people encoding live albums
to MP3s.
Thanks for listening. Hope to hear your valuable opinions about this matter
soon.
