Interesting that the latest MP3Trim (1.50a) has an MP3 amplification feature.  Alter
the volume of MP3's without decoding/re-encoding.  I presume he must be altering the
global_gain as discussed previously.

It's not that useful really because a lot of music is normalised, and as the author
warns, may result in clipping on the loudest parts.  What really is needed is a way
of determining the actual volume of each frame (without a full decode) so that a
normalisation or compression routine can be written.  I remember someone doing
something similar to produce a visual MP3 splitter but I can't find the messages in
the archive.  Can anyone help.
