IMHO, more than 99% of people who listen to mp3s have not been in
double-blind testing :) and therefore do not notice any minor artifacting
from using MS stereo. And BTW, isn't *lossy* encoding what Lame is all
about? Even the best of mp3 encodings, at the best bitrates, have atleast
some artifacts that can be noticed by trained listeners, but not by your
average common man...I believe.
