I've found the easiest way to setup a cdrom burner is
to recompile the linux kernel, which is a lot easier
than it sounds.  You just have to run a few scripts,
select some menu options, and then let it compile. 
But, if you have SuSE already installed, it probably
has the option already built in to the kernel.  If
you're using lilo, try appeding the command
"hdX=ide-scsi" where hdX is your cdrom drive.  This
enables ide-scsi emulation which means that your cd
burner is seen as a scsi cd burner, and it should
work, but it will have a different name, like
/dev/sr0, may be different for you.  Hope this helps!
