Disabling bit reservoir will only help you if you want to split mp3.
You can joint mp3 files, but there are a few restrictions:
*as mp3 is using mdct, you will probably have degraded output at the
join point
*you are not allowed to change the number of channels or the sampling
frequency in a bistream.

It could also be a good idea to disable Lame tag if you want to
concatenate resulting mp3 files (-t)
