At least in joint stereo mode, the inverted phase of one channel has a severe impact on the encoding. I believe in dual channel mode there is little impact of one signal to the encoding of the other (except for competing for the same number of bits in a frame). Therefore, there is no solution but decoding, inverting, and reencoding.
