Actually, as I understand it, Total Recorder goes one step further than that and actually installs itself as an audio device. So... In Software recording mode (with multiple speeds, as fast as your computer can do it in some cases more than 4x) the sound data never even reaches the sound card. Total Recorder CAN record via the Mixer input (ie. internal loopback via the soundcard) but intercepting the audio while it is still in the digital domain results in very accurate recording and recoding. I use TR for all my recording and just love it. And the price is quite fair too.
