Hi,

Have a problem I've been struggling with for some time. I'm looking to
write a small script/application capable of ripping a CD via cdparanoia and
encoding the tracks to mp3 via LAME (in Linux -it is currently a PERL
script). However, I'm trying to write it in such a way as to encode the
track AS it is being ripped, i.e. not waiting until the entire track is
ripped, so as to get the processing done in the least amount of time. I
assume major applications like iTunes and Windows Media Player do something
similar during import, so it seems like a feasible concept.

Has anyone done this, or perhaps can point me in the right direction?
Current efforts have revolved around using cdparanoia to rip part of the
track, encoding, ripping the next part, encoding that, etc. Attempts to
combine the resultant .mp3 files into a single file in an intelligent manner
have come up empty. Was hoping others had better suggestions than what I
came up with.

Thanks so much!
