Hi Steven, of course! sorry, my mistake, we only get a true picture of where
the mode energy lies with the x and y components of the E-field here (hence
dpwr) but the information given by H is useful for mode coupling. Thanks!

Looks right to me. Remember, the variational principle tells you that the
*electric* field energy tries to be concentrated in the high dielectric
for the lowest bands, not the *magnetic* field energy.
