First, you need to run 'make install' with FFTW to install it somewhere; 
it is not sufficient to just compile it. Second, you need to tell MPB's 
configure script where to find it, if you installed it in a non-standard 
location (like your home directory).

Please read the section "installation paths" in the MPB manual carefully. 
It tells you exactly what you need to do.  (As the manual says, this is a 
standard matter of compiling Unix software, and has nothing specifically 
to do with MPB, so you might also get a local Unix admin to help you out.)
