Hi Daniel,
pioBLAST does not change the core of NCBI BLAST algorithm. It uses the same
code for sequence comparison as mpiBLAST does. With regarding to the
performance, pioBLAST optimizes the input of sequence data with parallel
reading and explicit memory caching, as well as enables concurrent output
with parallel I/O through MPI-IO library. You can refer to the original
