This fellow Kirk Zimpfer writes me occasionally. He is unhappy with all
these "homos" getting into public life, etc., etc. How did I get to know
Kirk? Well from the Bush2000 list--which is a list that has quite a
diversity of opinion. I was out of town last week, so had not heard the
story that the Mpls School Board had taken this stand, so it was thoughtful
of Kirk to forward me the article.

That means they don't have the right to public funds or support. That was
their argument in the Supreme Court. When you get taxpayer support, then
there are extra rules--and non-discrimination laws apply.

Anyway, it's nice to know that the Mpls School Board isn't behaving like
the Democratic Presidential Candidate, who is totally kowtowing to the
theocrats on this one. Al Gore fully supports continuing all public
support for the Boy Scouts, and we found out Wednesday, that now he
supports DOMA. He had said he would not have voted for that law earlier
this year when he was speaking to a Gay audience. Ofcourse LCR endorsed
GWB said some things that offended many LCR members--including his
reference to "special rights"--which are just code words to say: don't let
those "homos" get equal access to the benefits enjoyed by other Americans.

I believe a while back Lisa McDonald posted that she had asked the City
Attorney for an opinion about the role the City plays with the BSA, and
there was also some discussion of the Viking Council (which serves the
Minneapolis area), and what their position is on the Scouts. It sounds
like the Indianhead Council in St Paul has said fairly publically that they
don't discriminate.
I guess Dr. Laura appologised in an ad for some of her bigoted statements.
Guess she is worried that her show will be cancelled. Isn't the free
market wonderful?
