Yes. And we need some "salmon" buses that go the opposite way that they
do now so that urban dwellers can "swim up stream" to the jobs in the
suburbs.
Years ago I read an article about a city in Brasil that has a "planned"
bus system. None of the buses had a lift for wheel chairs but all were
wheel chair accessible. They did this by using platforms at the bus stops
that had ramps to the level where the bus loaded - kind of like walking
onto an LRT car.
Unfortunately that probably works better near the equator than it does in
the winter time here. Which will probably bring the conversation back to
the much discussed PRT solution to this. I will let others discuss that
option.
Speaking of wintertime here: If you have the opportunity, you might
consider helping keep the corners snow free and clearing a spot on your
block so that people can get on the bus more easily.
