Looks like Block E will have some added competition from a new 16-screen
movie theater with stadium-style seating, plus two new restaurants (with
full liquor licenses) to be added at Southdale in late 2001. As reported in
City Business, the new entertainment expansion adds to the existing 1.2
million square foot retail space. Free parking, lower dining/entertainment
taxes, and close proximity to major freeways will undoubtedly place new
competitive pressure on theaters and other entertainment venues planned for
Block-- and all seemingly without a TIF subsidy from Edina.
