Credit should go to Park Board members
Annie Young, Vivian Mason and Dean Zimmerman for making a stand tonight to
protect water quality in Minneapolis.

They voted to have the Park Board raise official concern about General
Mills' impact on water in Bassett Creek. Dave Stack, who's been leading
opposition, can do a better job than I can describing the issue, but the
more I learn about this the more serious I believe it is. This has impacts
on restoration plans for the long-ignored creek, on the water that is such
an important part of the Hollman redevelopment and on water in the
Mississippi.

Like the "dewatering" controversy at the airport last summer, it's clear
the people of Minneapolis are waking up to the fact that the "City of Lakes"
can no long take our water for granted. And like that controversy, it's
great to have people like Annie, Vivian and Dean on the Park Board who have
the guts to stand up and fight with citizens against the pollution.
