It's a great job for someone with 1-3 years experience at another newspaper, who would really like to live in the city and to cover city news= . There's some grunt work, but we all do that. Lots of room for creativity, analysis, even investigative work if the person is so inclined. Here's the ad I ran in the Minnesota Newspaper Association bulletin: Staff Reporter Big city news at a community paper Position available Jan. 1 at the Southwest Journal, award-winning community newspaper in the heart of Minneapolis. We are looking for a creative team player who has proven he or she can offer perspective and analysis on the news, as well as cover the basics. Should be experienced, with work samples that show a range of topics and approaches. Minneapolis resident a plus. Extraordinary working environment, 401K, life/disability/health ins. EOE.
