Hi folks -
Two very important rules I want to re-emphasize for everyone:
Rule #5. One-on-one arguments, disagreements, and disputes of a personal
nature must be taken off list.
Comment: often, policy issues get mixed up with personal attacks. Too bad.
Personal attacks are strictly forbidden because they quickly degrade the
nature of the list. The bottom line for me is that they make a lot of
quality people leave. This is one of the quickest ways to get a warning,
and, as per our procedures, booted off if you do it again.
As I often tell new members, strong words about issues and official actions,
not about each other.
Rule #3. No forwarding private messages to the list without permission of
the author.
Comment: Why? To keep those personal pissing matches out of everyone's
in-box. You can't carve each other up ON the list, but of course there is
nothing I can do about what you do OFF the list. To prevent personal
disputes from re-entering the list, we require BOTH authors to agree to make
private correspondence public. And even then, forwarded posts must be within
the other list rules.
As I have said so many times, I will not allow personal sniping to degrade
the quality of this list. I have been very laissez-faire lately because I
don't like being a hall monitor. But I have seen good lists die because this
stuff gets out of hand. Rest assured my antennae are up and warnings will
quickly follow. My goal is to keep you all here, learning, debating, and
having fun.

page address has changed.)
