Just to let people know some going's on around Minneapolis on Feb. 1st,
2001. And which candidate's do you think will see their shadow today,
Feb.2nd?

On Thursday morning, Feb. 1st, The Green Party of Minnesota held a
Breakfast for Nader fundraiser for the party at Zion Baptist Church with
almost 150 people present. (Oh my, that grey line between Church and State
again). But some more important things happened at the event that I want
to share with you on all these list (sorry for duplications) serves I'm on
who might be so politically uplifted in the spirit of the day.

* The event which was to start at 9:30am was almost at overflow by 9:00am -
I was still putting flowers in vases and on the stage with everyone around.
Oh my!

* Rev. Curtis Herron welcomed us to his Church and gave a brief few words
on the Civil Rights Movement in context of the day's events. He introduced
his son, Brian, who proceeded to tell the audience that "it took ISAG and
HWY 55 to get ("white") folks riled up - it took people getting injured to
finally understand the plight of the African American community and its
longtime history "of getting beatup". He also ended his remarks with a
statement that shook the crowd, " and it is only when we all are as angry
as the people who have been physically beat up that will we move the issues
forward". And he welcomed us to the struggle.

* Rev. Herron confronted Ralph Nader head on about why there was no
outreach to the African American Community. He was impassioned and yet
compassionate as to why many AA's did not know they had a choice. He
lectured and cajoled us to the importance of outreach which should really
be called inreach - we must go into the communities and reach in to get
people interested in politics. (Another dialogue)

* One of my best and dearest friends, Dean Zimmerperson has entered the 6th
Ward City Council Race. As a loyal friend I will be helping on his
campaign. Generally speaking I like to stay on the fence in Council and
mayoral races because if I am in office I have to work with whomever is
elected, by you, the voters. But a lifelong, 30 year friend does warrant
an exception to my personal rule.

* And I am hear to announce that I will be seeking re-election to a city
wide at-large seat on the Mineapolis Park and Recreation Board. I have
attached some of my remarks from this morning.
"Following remarks about Nader and The Green Party
With this in mind I have made my decision to do my part by entering the
arena of politics here in Minneapolis again this year as I seek another
term on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
I have made a decision that I will not accept PAC money. I have a campaign
team in place and plan to open a website soon. We will be looking for
volunteers for events and parades. We will be looking for lawn sign
locations all over this city.

Why do I want to be re-elected? Oh the usual line - there is still a lot of
work to be done. But more importantly is that I believe that my experience
and commitment to a great park system is needed for the future stability on
the Board. I have a commitment to safe parks, strong neighborhoods and
citizen participation. Water quality in our lakes and the environmental
restoration with wetlands and bringing back the prairie still need a
watchful eye to ensure we keep on task. I am excited about the possibility
of a Park Crossing/ land bridge structure at 28th and Hiawatha and the
connection of the lakes and the river by the Midtown Greenway. The same
holds true for river and park development along the Upper North
Mississippi. The ecological restoration of Bassett's Creek and new parkland
coming with the northside Hollman/redevelopment project which will also
bring new amenities while athletic facilities will be enhanced by the new
Fort Snelling Athletic Complex."

I have experience on the Board and a city-wide perspective from having
worked on both the North and South sides of Minneapolis during the past
twenty years. I will continue to provide environmental leadership to the
Park Board.

I would be honored to receive your support as I seek re-election this fall.
Thank You.

I'll keep you posted on campaign developments as they arise. And after my
website is setup I plan to communicate mostly through it regarding my
campaign and not this list serve.

I'm one who wants to discuss issues overall for the city and deal with
elections and campaign positions and party politics on different e-list's.
