You're absolutely right; if people had a property
interest (think, microscopic licensing fees) in their
name, it would no longer be profitable to trade in
commercial mailing lists.  Someone brought a suit
about a decade in VA to have a court recognize this
right, but it got bounced at a very early stage.

As an attorney and Internet user, I strongly support
it, and I think it will eventually become part of our
legal system . . . 

The Minneapolis angle?  Reforming campaign finance
laws -- an issue in the mayoral race -- may be
difficult until our legal system catches up to the
Internet generally (ok, List Manager, I tried).
