Let me stir the pot a bit here concerning the Mayor's race.
In the last few election cycles what have been the top major issues that
people in the city have been screaming about...
1. Taxes (ie. property taxes)
Let's be honest here about taxes. How many times while she has been in
office has she put into her budget tax increases? She tried to disguise
them as not tax increases, but that's what they were. Never has she scolded
the city council's tax and spend ways. Let's face it folks we are in a
really bind. Property taxes and fees are out of control, and we aren't
getting much in return. In order to solve some of the problems faced in
the city, you are going to need a tax base to draw from, and the mayor
hasn't fostered a pro-taxpayer base feeling. Soon there wouldn't be enough
taxpayers left in the city to pay for all the programs.
2. Education
What has Sharon done about these issues? Made them worse.
Yes, as mayor she isn't DIRECTLY in charge of the education system. But,
the position can be used as a pulpit to direct and push agenda items along.
Education is the number one item a city has going for it. It is what
attracts families to an area, and keeps them here. I don't here of many
people that have lived in Minneapolis for a while, have kids, and stay long
enough to send their kids to school here. It is the bell weather of the
livability factor number one.

These are just a sample of the issues. The major reason these issues exist
is because people in power are afraid to address them for fear of upset one
group or another. Well guess what, they should have fear for their position
for not having addresses the issues, because it's pay the piper time.
Sharon, you have failed us. Goodbye!
Steve Sumner
1st Ward.
