I believe the Minneapolis DFL has become a confederation of special interest
groups, from Stonewall to the Downtown Council, that know how to work the
system and have thus rigged it well enough in this one-party town that each
party faction gets their own piece of the pie without too many check and
balances regarding the cost and worthiness of what they want--that's why the
city's finances are precarious during a period of unprecedented economic
growth. The DFL will continue to play this game at risk to its reputation
(citywide and statewide), which is already one of an insular, short-sighted
organization that doesn't much care about "ordinary" homeowners/taxpayers who
don't devote themselves to the energy-sucking activities required to gain a
foothold in the party consciousness. Yes, DFL-ers have the "right" to do
whatever they want. Just don't be surprised when your strength and viability
diminish to the point where your arrogant business as usual doesn't cut it
anymore with voters.
