Megan, your post doesn't address the main point of the Doug Grow column.
I've talked to a number of friends about this--including a former chair of
Stonewall's predicessor, Vicki Oace. We all agree that the question about
will you abide by the DFL endorsement convention should not be asked of
candidates.

I would also like to challenge the Mayor, and Lisa McDonald to share their
Stonewall Questionaires to this list. (Or maybe post it to your websites).

I'm a big fan of having these endorsement questionaires collect
information, and then let people use that information to decide for
themselves who to vote for.

At the same time, it really galls me that the Republican Party has just
abdicated putting any money or time into Minneapolis. Obviously there is a
significant part of the community here that is sick and tired of the same
old, same old DFL hegemony.

Megan, how do you feel about Michael Krause resigning from Stonewall? That
seems to be a significant loss. As I recall Krause was city DFL chair for
a while.

I would encourage Lisa and RT to make their case directly to people.
Stonewall DFL isn't the only way to communicate to the Gay community.
There really isn't one way to appeal to Gays anymore. Gays are politically
and culturally diverse.

I guess this is something I don't get. If the DFL is so wonderful on Gay
and Lesbian issues, then there should be no need for a Stonewall DFL. The
main reason I see for a Log Cabin Republicans is that the powers that be in
the Republican party can take some stupidly anti-gay stands. There's a
need for organization of gays within the party, because it helps with
getting a critical mass of people active and involved to accomplish things
like changing the anti-gay language in the platform (which by the way was
attempted by some on the platform committee without LCR being directly
involved). However, if there is not clear resistance to Gays participating
in the DFL, it seems that there really is no need for a separate Stonewall
DFL organization. It seems that at this point these organizations do more
to splinter the DFL into interest groups rather than getting people to work
together.

At the same time what I find interesting is that Gay Republicans often get
more bigoted garbage from other liberal gays (when we should all be working
together) than we do from fellow Republican activists. This is rather
counterintuitive, but all too real.
