Best, David -----Original Message----- From: Scott Persons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 3:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: ScottP Subject: Please Post Dear Mpls-Issue list subscribers, Joseph Barisonzi served the people of the Lyndale Neighborhood for 5 years as the Executive Coordinator of the Lyndale Neighborhood Association. During this time there were never any questions about his deep commitment to the empowerment of low-income people, people of color, and renters. In fact it was his personal and professional dedication to these issue for which he was awarded the national Brick Award for Community Leadership in 1997. He immediately donated his $100,000 award to the neighborhood. It should be noted that during Mr. Barisonzi's tenure. Ms. Little-Smith had a contract with the Lyndale Neighborhood Association to provide technical assistance to low-income people along the Lake Street corridor in the Phillips and Central community. Although this work was outside of LNA's service area; Joseph made the argument to Lyndale leadership that we had a moral obligation to support other neighborhood groups to grow and increase their effectiveness to involve disenfranchised groups. For full-disclosure sake, it should also be noted that this contract was discontinued at a later date due to lack of performance from Ms. Little-Smith. The LNA Finance Committee made this decision over the objections of Mr. Barisonzi. Joseph Barisonzi continues to be an incredible volunteer and leader in our neighborhood. His dedication to issues of neighborhood empowerment is unimpeachable.
