Hi all, I would like to point out that seeking
Stonewall DFL endorsement or an acceptable rating is
an important indicator of a candidate's positions on
GLBT issues IF that candidate is seeking DFL
endorsement. Cam Gordon, Dean Zimmerman, & Tamir
Nolley and yet to be announced others are seeking
Green Party endorsement and NOT DFL endorsement.
These candidate's not seeking endorsement of the
Stonewall DFL caucus in no way indicates that they are
not supportive of or knowledgeable about the GLBT
community and it's issues. My understanding is the
Lavender Greens(GLBT GREENS) will not be endorsing
candidates individually(at this time) but rather have
their issues integrated into the party's screening,
endorsement process, & key values to which all
candidates are held by the party.
Rest assured that Green candidates embrace the issues
of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered
communities.
The Stonewall DFL, in the bigger tent of the DFL, have
done wonderful work in Mpls in sorting out those
candidates strongest on the concerns of the GLBT
community. I expect the DFL in Mpls to continue to
show leadership on these issues. However, the Greens
can now also be expected to show leadership on these
issues. This is a healthy development for Mpls and
the Glbt community and it's concerns.
The criticism of the Stonewall DFL in holding it's
candidates to the endorsement question may arise from
fears of endorsing a candidate who then might accept
another party's endorsement if they don't get the
DFL's endorsement. Cross endorsement seems to be very
controversial among DFL'ers and Greens. I am
interested in seeing how this all shakes out as their
may be individual candidates who could be embraced by
both parties in these supposedly nonpartisan races.
Any candidate who could meet the high standards of the
Greens and the rigor and broad support represented by
the DFL would certainly be a candidate to beat!(though
with the animosities held by some after this fall, she
or he might have to do better than walking on water to
be cross endorsed)
Thanks, David Strand
