Speaking of neighborhood newspapers, I got this in the mail from the
Minnesota Newspaper Foundation and decided to pass it along for anyone who
might be interested:

COMMUNITY JOURNALISM WORKSHOP
Saturday, March 10, 2001
9:30 a.m. - to 12:00 noon
University of Minnesota's Journalism Conference Center, Murphy Hall

The purpose of the workshop, presented by freelancer Dwight Hobbes and
assistant journalism professor Karen Boros, is to help those interested in
writing for a newspaper, or for those interested in gaining more knowledge in
the field of journalism. Learn how to produce a great story while using and
improving upon your own writing skills. Agenda topics include the role of
community newspapers, writing for newspapers, practicing lead writing, and
organizing stories.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! There is only room for 32 people and the
deadline for registration is Thursday, March 8, so call the Minnesota
Newspaper Foundation today at (612) 672-0948 to register, if you are
interested. Feel free to call with any questions. Murphy Hall is on the
East Bank campus, just north of Ford Hall, which is at the corner of
Washington Avenue and Church Street.
