Neal St. Anthony is a breath of fresh journalistic air
coming from the mouth of an often in the past
toothless giant, the StarTribune, in it's coverage of
City Hall, MCDA, etc shenanigans.

The most they have seemed willing to do is quote the
ever quotable Lisa McDonald (do they teach sound byte
production somewhere) to make a point they have seemed
unwilling to commit to editorially.

I was grateful to see the STRIB editorial urging Z&P
postpone the sale of property on the riverfront to
Ryan. A StarTribune editorial works like high beams on
a deer in the road when it comes to the City Council.

The article in the Strib's metro section talking about
the LRT crossing of Lake Street was unflattering to
Ted Mondale and the Met Council which basically got
caught with their pants down.

So not only have the people of Phillips, Longfellow
and Seward, not to mention all citizens of the city
who travel about, have the least amount of aesthetic
value, and can see beyond their parochial noses to the
overall good, been screwed by MnDot which reneged on a
plan to sink Hiawatha at Lake Street, now the Met
Council is trying to set the city of Minneapolis up to
pay the cost of building a bridge for LRT that will
not blight the neighborhood. Oh this is great!

I've never liked LRT and nothing the Met Council has
done since it was first announced has helped to raise
my comfort level. I try, god knows I try, to be
positive, but this is a major trainwreck (excuse the
chiched metaphor, once again I could not help myself)
about to happen.

Cheers
