is what most people read on the City's website. As Cara and other posts
address, the printed word is obviously subject to interpretation and each
party's own rules.

Filing Dates: July 3 through July 17 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Candidates may withdraw no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001
Government offices are closed Wednesday, July 4, 2001
Candidates who will be absent from the state during the filing period may
arrange with the Minneapolis Office of Elections to file prior to departure.
Filing Location: Office of Minneapolis Elections
Minneapolis City Hall, 350 South 5th Street - Room 1B
Filing Fee: $20.00
Candidates may present a petition with the signatures of eligible voters in
lieu of the filing fee. Information on petition and signature requirements
may be obtained from the Office of Minneapolis Elections.
City and School District Offices on the ballot in 2001
Mayor
Council Members - 13 Wards
Board of Estimate and Taxation - 2 At-Large Members
Park and Recreation Board - 3 At-Large and 6 District Commissioners
Library Board - 6 At-Large Trustees
Special School District No. 1 - 3 At-Large Directors
All offices are nonpartisan. However, candidates for Mayor and Council
Members state the name of their political party or political principal in
three words or less when filing. Terms are for four years, except for
School Board Directors whose terms are three years. Candidates who are
elected will take office in January 2002. Candidate filings will be posted
daily on the Minneapolis Web site.
