Hi Folks: Rick Stafford asked for a report of the CNIA meeting on Saturday. I don't think anyone is going to be "unbiased", but this is my take. If there are others in attendance, I'd appreciate additions or corrections. Also, I've started an egroup for discussion of CNIA issues. To join the egroup, send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you have problems with this, you can contact me to get added to the list. I attended Saturday's meeting, and there was a motion to postpone the decision on the Plan modification so that the neighborhood can have another meeting on the topic. The group at the meeting pretty overwhelmingly voted in favor of this motion (22-6-1 abstention, I think). There were around 50 people at the meeting. There was a fair amount of discussion about whether there was proper notification about the meeting or not. It would be nice if someone on the list more familiar with the CDC issue could explain the discussion over that. CNIA is interested in forming a CDC. I wasn't quite clear what purpose was going to be served by that. I asked a number of board members what happened to the CNIA mailing list, and asked about the story I'd heard that Jana Metsge had offered to show the new board and staff the passwords to the computer, and basically orient them to the various files and databases. The story I get from board members is that computers had disappeared from the office. Who knows what really happened here. Some of this sounds a bit like the disputes between the outgoing Clinton/Gore administration and the incoming Bush administration (you know, the missing Ws on the computer keyboards). At the end of the meeting, Zack Metoyer was a bit more frank with us. He said that the organization would be broke in 5-6 weeks if they don't get this plan modification passed. They have known they would need to do the Plan modification since July--and they claim that they inherited the fiscal mess from the previous board. There was also some discussion at the meeting about Walt Gutzmer's post on Minneapolis Issues--regarding contacting funders and urging them to stear clear of CNIA if they go through with this Plan modification. Many board members saw much of the email discussion of CNIA both on Minneapolis Issues and some private elists of selected interested individuals to be rumor mongering, and passing around falsehoods. However, we do now have several people who are actively involved with CNIA--board members, and folks on the committees on this e-list. I talked with Valerie Metoyer about using this list (CNIA chat) in a productive way to work through some of these differences. She was receptive to the idea. She was also receptive to the idea of using this site to make available meeting minutes. All four 8th ward candidates attended this meeting. I discussed the possibility of a candidate forum with 3 of the candidates: Brian Herron and Sandra Miller (at the same time) and Robert Lilligren (separately), and all these folks agreed to a candidate forum. So if some folks in ward 8 want to work on a candidate forum--and get the candidates together on an agreed on date, I think they will all agree. Usually the toughest person to get is the incumbent, but Brian Herron expressed his eagerness to participate in a candidate forum. There was alot of interesting material passed out at this meeting -- and if I can get copies of the material in electronic format, I would be glad to post the material on the this egroup files section of the CNIA chat list.
