Police harassment by the 90's hasn't stopped by any means. Many of
the taxi drivers that I work with often get ticketed for using the bus lane
by the 90's, though it is perfectly legal for them to do so. What happens
is the police will sometimes block off both entrances to the parking lot so
that there's no safe place to park, and then they'll ticket the cab, and in
some cases even tow the cab as the driver is going in to the bar to get the
customer. The only option we are left with is not serving the bar, which I
believe is a poor ethical decision. This also happens at bars along First
Avenue such as the Loon Cafe, where such an incident happened to me. Police
harassment happens at too many levels and to too many people.
