Well, I really feel bad about this deal. I have been trying the past
couple of weeks to see if the Park Board could somehow get back in the deal
and that once the parking ramp for the Guthrie was built could all those
surface parking spots be made into an attractive park (a sculpture garden
type thing) by the Guthrie on the River. Commissioner Zimmermann mentioned
last week that we may have made our big mistake many moons ago in deciding
to let 11th get opened up and the American Red Cross get their building so
close to the Parkway. All the visioning of what could have been baffles me
by this blatant disrespect for the new existing ordainance about surface
lots and the great need to pave over paradise.
Every day the chances appear slimmer and slimmer that we can get a downtown
park and green space anywhere in this downtown neighborhood other than the
plaza outside the Hennepin County Govt Center on 7th Street. So there goes
the theory of a park within 6 blocks of everyone's home in the city.
How depressing when one wants an eco-city and flowers on every corner.
