David Brauer is too much of a class act to say this, but he puts in
incredible time and energy on this list, despite a freelance writing career
that requires a lot of scutwork to get assignments, let alone write them, and
primary responsibility for two small children during many workdays. If you
guys keep nit-picking and implicitly criticizing his management--which he
does without recompense and, I would argue, a tremendous degree of fairness
at the expense of self-interest--he may just decide to chuck it and let
everybody fend for themselves. This isn't David making any threats, it is me
stating the obvious: make an already trying task even more onerous with these
dozens of tiny bites and you may not have Brauer to kick around anymore.
Anyone voting for "democracy" should seriously considering that possibility
before "voting."  Under the guise of "fairness," Jordan's proposal would
increase the power of individual list members without a significantly added
workload. It would markedly decrease David's power and influence while adding
a tremendous amount of bureaucratic parsing to his already heavy workload.
Would any among us agree to that with the degree of enthusiasm and commitment
David has shown? If not, isn't everybody taking him for granted?
Let's get a clue here...
