If memory serves - and you'll soon read my indelible memory for remembering
this - it was only one year without AC...the place was so stifling they had
to do something.
The reason I'll never forget is that my first Dome game was on a sweltering
first-season day (1982). My friend Kevin Stoltman and I did what we always
did at the old Met when we were broiling - we took our shirts off. An usher
barreled down the stairs promptly to tell us to put our shirts back on. Now,
the sight of me with my shirt off wasn't pretty then or now, but this so
perfectly captured the desecration of baseball tradition that Kevin and I
still laugh about it 20 years later. Apparently, there are things you can do
outside that you can't do inside - even if the "insideness" of the Metrodome
was heating things up faster than the greenhouse effect.
I have no idea what the no-shirt-off factor will be with LRT, but I promise
I'll leave all street clothes on whenever I ride it!
In the spirit of a late Friday afternoon at the computer,
