Okay, haul out those brick bats, cuz I think you'll be wanting them. Here
goes:

Excuse me, but I just don't get what is wrong with saying the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag in schools. We did it every day when I went to
school (ahem, I did go to private school, so I don't know if it was done in
public schools ways back then) and I'm not a totalitarian, at least not the
last time I checked. I mean, saying the Pledge is saying we believe in
America and liberty and justice for all is what it stands for (at least
that's what it means to a child). And, those are the values that America
stands for in a child's mind and that's what is taught in American History
in grade school and high school, so why shouldn't that be reinforced. Ok,
if kids are immigants who are not citizens or don't want to become citizens
or it's against their religion, or something, let them sit it out. I'm not
promoting prayer in school, or anything, and I don't even see why this
thread is on the list.

But, just asking, why is it totalitarian to say the Pledge of Allegiance in
school. Where else would you learn the Pledge of Allegiance? It's just
part of learning to respect and honor your country and the symbols of your
country and what our country stands for. Last time I looked, I was a
liberal.
